Climax Cooperative broke ground in the Spring of 2017, taking what had been a dairy farm over half a century ago and turning its rich clay soil into a small produce operation. Continuing the tradition of upstate farming, Climax Cooperative hopes to become a staple for fresh vegetables in the Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountain communities.
Operated in full by its three founders – Nathan, Rick and Quintin – the market garden currently grows on just over an acre of field and covered space. The land is farmed intensively and with minimal mechanical intervention – a practice championed by the likes of Eliot Coleman and JM Fortier. Working in symbiosis with the natural processes of soil building allows Climax Co-op to yield the most from the land while sustaining its integrity.
